Erratic Speedometer
The speedometer has been making some noise and not steady in it's movement. I researched several sources of "how-to", the cost of a rebuild, and also considered a unit from suppliers, the decided to clean/lube by the DIY method. Dry grease flushed out, insides cleaned and fresh lubrication..
we'll go for a ride today and test it out.!! |

Re: Erratic Speedometer
Sorry to hijack the thread, but though I'd mention that you can purchase a Heads Up GPS speedometer on eBay for less than $20, that can be moved from car to car, so makes a great temp speedo if yours craps out at a critical time. On my CCPU, I just permanently mounted one above the rear window, and it is easier viewed either on the windshield or in the rear view mirror. (Also really visable at night!) Used stick back Velcro, works a treat, leaves no damage to car. They also sell dash topper GPS Speedos for very little $. Made in China, but what isn't these days?
You could use one of these if yours is kapoot!

Re: Erratic Speedometer
Thanks papanick.. wanted to try this and learn as I did. Had replaced a bad cable, and cleaned and lubed the drive unit prior, I still had a noise and slight vibration I could feel on the speedo face (off and on) as I drove. Video and articles helped me along the way.. smooth and quiet today.!
Nice drive....... kb |

If you send it t Papanick, send the CABLE/HOUSING also, so he can check those out.
