Is there anyplace in the Los Angeles area to have rear springs rebuilt? Hollywood Spring is no more.

The better spring rebuild uses heat to re-arch the spring . Cold re-arching doesn't hold up long enough to be worth the effort .

If you want to really experience the true driving and handling ability of a Model A. Put on new correct USA made front and rear springs. These along with correct working shocks and a fully rebuilt front end are the difference between night and day.

We sold a car a few years ago to a long time Model A enthusiast. He had owned a number of A’s and was an active club member. Could not believe how the car handled, and it’s ride.

Long and short of this story. I would not rebuild 90 year old springs.

You might need to try a larger town. New springs are good also.

No spring manufacturer has showed up yet that produces the quality springs that Hollywood Spring did.

The commercially available ones of today are REALLY poor quality.

I have had my A for three years now. Last year I was thinking about rebuilding my worn out springs. I decided that I want to drive the heck out of my car and wanted to get new springs to enjoy the major difference between worn/rebuilt ones and brand new ones.

I ended up going to http://a-springs.com/products.html and bought brand new front and rear springs. It made a huge difference and I'm glad I did it. The cost is something to consider, but if you plan on driving and keeping your car for a long time, I would replace them with new ones.

If you can borrow an old Hemmings Motor News you could probably find contact info for a a spring rebuilder . If the springs are re-arched and heat treated they will be good but will probably cost nearly as much as a new spring from a model A parts vendor . I've had good luck with new repro springs from Smith and Jones model A parts in Columbia South Carolina .

Bob, you know there are many auto machine shops in L.A., I was just giving advice. I had my springs rebuilt in Eugene Oregon and know it can be done. Maybe he needs to look in the valley.

There are a lot of truck and tractor repair and machine shops out here in the Inland Empire.

I would also think that old time hot rod shops that can do fabrication could do it. There are a lot of those in Southern California.

The go to old time spring shop here in Detroit is Eaton Spring in downtown Detroit, been there since the 1930's. No first hand experience with them on Model A springs but good reputation in general. https://www.eatondetroitspring.com/
