Copra & Chickle Drabs

The time to paint my 190A is at hand and I would like to have the proper brown tints of these colors. My choice of paint is single stage urethane.

Have paint codes become available that match the colors on an original Model A with Copra & Chickle Drabs?

Somewhere I have the Model A paint colors with part numbers. I'll look for it and get back. I think I got it off Marco's site a few years ago.

Here is a link to a web site for paint codes.

Go to the web site and put in the Make of your car in the block STEP 1, and patiently wait, then in Step 2 pull down the year and select the year of the car. Be patient again!

When the page displays keep your mouse on the LH side of the page. If you move to RH side everything becomes too small to read. If you are on the RH side to refresh click on the page you want page 1 text or page 2 color codes

Ummm, are you sure?? It appears those really aren't paint codes but are TCP's part numbers.

I've posted this before, but I will repeat it again. PPG Copra Drab is NOT the correct color. It is a gray not a brown. DuPont's ChromaPremier Copra Drab is the correct color.

I've contacted them about the colors. They tell be they mix the color and match it to the Color guide book the clubs sell.

Yes, but those numbers are not the formulas or the paint codes.

Well, what I do, may be different than what you do. Two options, ....either find, -or purchase the Model-A Paint & Refinish guide to use and have the paint store mix to the color chip. The 2nd option is purchase paint from a reputable manufacturer (-such as DuPont) where the jobber can contact their Tech Dept. and get the formula for the specific line of paint you are going to use.

The next step is to always do a small spray out of the color to ensure it matches the color chip. If it doesn't have them re-tint the paint where it matches.

I would Contact the Color Library in Strongsville Ohio and ask for the formula for the color you want. Your PPG dealer can do this for you. if we do it this way then all of us will have access to the formulas at PPG...440-572-2800 is the number I have.
The gray type Chicle and Copra was a mistake made up by Ditzler in the late 50's early 60's. The correct shade is the brown color that you see on the cover of the Model A News Jan/Feb 2010 or Jay Pearcy's coupe in front of the Alamo in a more recent issue. Ditzler was bought out by PPG.

I went searching and came up with a cross reference chart between Ditzler and DuPont. The Ditzler paint was definitly Laquer but the DuPont was "Duco" which I'm not familiar with. Do you know if the DuPont paint described was Laquer on not?

The numbers given were Chickle Drab 246-30247
Copra Drab 246_30251
I don't know if these numbers are paint codes or some part number.

The Jan/Feb 2012 issue of the Model A News has a picture of Jay Pearcy's correct shade of Chicle and Copra if anyone is interested.
I would contact Jay to see if he has the formula as then we are not all doing the same job over and over again. He has already done it for us.
If we can all get the PPG color lab or the Dupont folks to do the formulas then we all benefit and no repeat work is done. Just a thought.

I'm on the outside looking in but aren't all the "Fine Point" MARC vehicles painted in the correct shades? If so, why not collect all these "Correct" colors and produce the formula numbers? Bob

I don't know how to post a search link.....but if you type in Chicle Drab in the search the postings will come up. On 9/26/2102 is a post that says More Questions about Chicle drab and Copra Drab. Then the 4th post is Jay Pearcy with a number to contact if you are interested in the proper color formulas. Jays car is supposed to be the accurate shade of the color. It is more of the brown tones than the gray.

Hello Bob--I have the correct paint codes for Chickle and Copra Drab in PPG acrylic lacquer if you would like them. I also have the codes for them in single stage urethane--Concept. Please contact me if you are interested at 509-220-4346. Other replies are indeed correct in that these colors are shades of brown, not green or gray.
