intake tightening sequence
I am reinstalling an aluminium intake manifold and need the tightening sequence. I understand torque is 25 to 30 LBs. Thanks Bob

Re: intake tightening sequence
Is it on a Y-Block, SBF, FE or something else?
Not knowing what engine you're working on... I like tightening intake manifolds, heads, etc. in three (or more) steps. Double check that the manifold is fully seated on the heads*, and top of the block, if applicable. Starting in the center of one side gently snug the bolts one at a time to just over finger tight while working outward in a crisscross "X" pattern. Then go back and start over, torquing the bolts to about half of the final torque value. Then around again to maybe a couple pounds under the final value. And finally around again to the full torque, then double check them. * fully seated on the heads This procedure, prompted by unfamiliarity, a touch of paranoia and two problems, is recalled from the last Y-Block I did. 1. starting off by tightening too much on one side would cause the other side to raise up. 2. the bottom of the thermostat housing was resting on the front valley pan bolt, not allowing the intake manif to sit properly on the heads. The grommet was shortened slightly to fit. Photo attached... Last edited by dmsfrr; 03-03-2022 at 09:29 PM. |
