Default vedette V8/60 intake info?

So I was walking around the swap at the Lonestar Roundup in Austin a couple weeks ago and saw a strange aluminum V8/60 intake. Took a picture just because it piqued my curiosity. After a couple hours, I decided to go back and ended up buying it for $40.

AAAAANYHOW...what got me was it had a 4-bolt carb flange (probably for a merc teapot or rochester?) . It also has a slight angle to it, so I'm guessing its an aftermarket marine intake. Also marked "VEDETTE"

I am finding some info on Vedette french V8/60's. maybe that's something?

Looks like 50's vintage French Vedette, not boat, angled carb mount became standard practice on cars.

Don't get too technical on me, but what advantage, if any, is there to the overall performance of the engine to put the carb at an angle???

Lawson - I think the idea is to keep the carb level. If I'm wrong, I expect someone will correct me.

I've seen a few of these Simca Vedettes over the years down here in NZ.

Here's some you tube clips of one. This little engine is music to ones ears.

Can't testify as to any performance benefits to the engine but it was done to keep the carb level. Generally about 5 deg. And that would be a benefit to the performance of the carb. You can see in the cut away that even the oil filter is angled to keep it level.

The four bolt carb was a Zenith 32NDIX.

The tilt used just matches engine angle in chassis. On big flatheads, '32-48 were mounted level, '49 up they were tilted back with manifold to match.

When the Comete Monte Carlo was upgraded from Vedette V-8 60 to 239 V-8, it too, had a four bolt carb. And an aluminum pan and aluminum four speed transmission. (If you find either of those for $40, you'll give me first dibs, won't you? )
