Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
Guys, I appologise in advance if I am asking dumb questions, but I am going through a massive learning curb in learning to identify panels and parts for my 1929 Closed Cab Pickup.
The assistance I require is: What are the key differences, if any, between a 1929 Closed Cab Pickup bed and a 1926 T Closed Pickup bed, and how do I easily identify the difference. Thank you, in advance for your help, and bear with me, I am learning quickly. Last edited by Lil Nick; 11-02-2012 at 08:53 AM. |

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
Lil Nick, I have owned 2 28-29 closed cab pickups in my time. In fact my very first model A was one. My dad got it for me when I was 14 years old in 1967. There is quite a bit difference in the beds. I know this because the second pickup I got came with the wrong box (a later T box). The T box has an angled indentation in the front panel of the box on the riders side. There is some other differences also. I made a relly neat trailer out of this box to pull behind my current model A.Hope this helps, Frank

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
The T pickups I've seen have the front stake pockets set back a few inches from the headboard. Not all the way to the front like the A.The embossing on the sides that outline the fenders is different,as the fenders sit in a different place.

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
The first 1926 boxes had the stake pockets at the front like the Model A's had. Problem was---the stakes could not be inserted into the pockets. Ford therefore moved the pockets back a few inches for the remainder of the '26 - '27 production run. FYI

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
Thanks Van Dyck.
The stake pockets on the Pickup bed I have are about 2-3 inches in from the cab end of the pickup bed. So I guess this would suggest that it is a later production 26 T Bed. Want I want to determine now, is how different the fender fitting and location is T against A, i.e. is the fender fixture the same or completely different? Reallly appreciate your help. Regards Nick. |

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
A T Bed can be made to fit, but doesn't look right (first two pics)
A Bed is deeper and fender spacers in the right place (pic three) So some T/A interchangeability possible, but can look odd (four) Regards Juggs |

Hey Juggs, hope you are well.
Thank you so much for the information and photos, which are incredibly helpful. I assume the other dimensions, ie width and length must be pretty similar? Cheers Nick. Last edited by Lil Nick; 11-03-2012 at 08:06 AM. |

Re: Closed Cab Pickup Bed A against T.
Hello Nick - good thanks. I'll be better when Dear Old Dad lets me down from the garage roof in the cold and the rain and back to sunny Phoenix.
My bed is 56 and 1/2" long, 47" wide to the outside edges of the top rails and 20" high. These measurements approx as it's freezing out there. Can't help you with T bed measurements sorry. You might also come across a later A wide bed, which are, er, wider but again I don't know the exact dimensions. Any pics of your truck yet? Cheers Juggs |
