1950 F-1 Engine
I am considering installing my 1950 RT engine with Edelbrock Heads and dual carb manifold in my '50 PickUp. After looking it over I don't think there is any way to use my original generator. It looks like there is not enough room in front of the carbs to fit it in. ANY SUGGESTIONS????? I do not want to switch to 12 volt and alternator. A friend says there are several different mounts available so that the 6 Volt generator can be used. ?????? Any help will be appreciated!

You can get left or right side. Last edited by Bob C; 11-13-2022 at 12:21 PM. |

That bracket or one like it….. and what’s the plan for the distributor? Loadomatic won’t work with two carbs.

Re: 1950 F-1 Engine
I'm a "dumbbell" on this modified stuff. Always stayed Original! I planned to stay with the original distributor. Not really interested in performance. I just think it would look pretty neat. Engine with all the neat stuff has been sitting in my shop for 30 or 40 years. My son-in-law is my helper. He knew I had the engine and looks forward to seeing it in the truck. I think that bracket is what my friend was talking about. It would seem that on the right side the distributor will be in the way. On the left side the oil fill tube might be in the way. MUST I use a different distributor? If this becomes a major project I will probably just stay with the original engine.

Re: 1950 F-1 Engine
Hi,
I know you didn't want to go 12V but here's what it would look like. It was made to look like the 6V I had. I have a 1950 F1 project I've been financing/managing for the last 2 years. Hoping to go to paint in March! Lou |

Re: 1950 F-1 Engine
Here's my '51 with dual 94s on an Edelbrock and stock 6V generator. Most if not all "regular" dual intakes were designed for the stock generator placement. The 94s are also slightly longer than 97s. But, as has been mentioned, you'll need to change the distributor if you don't use loadomatic specific carbs.

Re: 1950 F-1 Engine
Those two-carb intakes with the carbs close together are designed for the generator to fit. If they did not fit than you might as well bought the super intake with the carbs spaced further apart that, which makes more power. It will fit, that is exactly what that intake was designed for.

I posted the same thing twice and don't know how to delete the post. I'll add a photo, so you never know it was screwup.

Re: 1950 F-1 Engine
I have a '52 F-1 with a set of dual carbs and shortened PowerGen. I use progressive linkage on the system; a Holley 2100 on the front and a Holley 59 in back. This setup works great and will put your butt back in the seat when you kick-in the second carb.
