i was told this was a merc oil pan idk . but this was on a old motor i have and i pressure washed it up and was wondering from peoples expeience on cars if this will work on my 52 ford customline i dry fitted in in my frame and the center sump was in the middle and the back was missing the steering bars so it looked to work just making sure before i paint this and install it on the motor oh yeah forgot to mention it has one little pin whole in the bottom of it i like to have never saw it so im guessing just jb weld it inside and out ????

The 52 ford was a center sump so it should work. The 52 & 53 Mercs used the same basic sump as the Ford car in those two years. The earlier 49 thru 51 Mercs used a rear sump pan

The pictured car pan is for '52-'53 Ford/Mercs, with ribbed sides and center sump. The '49-'51 Ford car pan is similar, but with smooth sides.

Why wouldn't you weld the pinhole?

You could also gas weld/braze that pin hole. I wouldn't use JB Weld unless doing an emergency/temporary road repair to get back home.

I have always brazed them. Don't get too hot. Maybe an old wives tale but I have always heard arcing them will overheat the metal and result in stress cracks down the road. Anyone here know for sure?

Flux core will put a lot of spatter, be sure to only work on the outside if you use that.

As thick as these pans are, I can't imagine them cracking from stress in street use, unless you were maybe doing a big repair (like to clear a tie rod or something).

When you reinstall the pan, after you put 4 or so bolts in it, I would turn the engine over (without ignition). Listen, in case baffling or anything, might be different and hit the pan as the crank turns. Great, I have managed to be almost unintelligible with my sentence structure, but I think you get the drift of what I am trying to say.

I get a lot of pan with pin holes, glass bead the pan and hole it over you head looking in the inside, you can usually see light through the pin holes, I braze them, it's easy. I SEE THE LIGHT--I SEE THE LIGHT Walt
