Unhappy Heater installation, help!

ok , here is my dilemma, would like to install a hot water heater and i know some of you have. I need tips and lots of advice. The heater sold by snyders is about 7 inches in width. It would be very very tight between choke rod and passenger wall.such that the choke rod will bind.
any ideas would help greatly. Thanks / john emil: [email protected]. Hello al.?

You could cut a hole in the wood floorboard and use a metal grate, then mount the heater core and blower motor under the grate.

NAPA has the heaters, as well as other Auto parts stores, about 3, or 4 kinds, and there may be more then that with other Companies. They are called Cab heaters, and are used in combines, Tractors Ect. There are different shapes, and sizes, and maybe one might fit better, then another, and be cheaper in price. They really work good. Herm.

As long as you're on the right side of tight, you're ok. Here's what mine looks like. I put a polyethylene sleeve on the choke rod to help that out, and had to bend the gas shut off valve handle a bit. The under the hood part is easy, relatively.

Just a thought and maybe a foolish one, but how about a used heater core and a couple of 5 volt computer fans? I haven't done it, but it'd be a lot cheaper than the Snyder's one!

Hey Jim>head studs??? my problem is the heater is 7 inches wide , the distance from right side of choke rod to passenger panel is little less than 7 inches on the bottome thus the unit binds choke rod. i may be able to squeeze it better by taking off dress panel and then refigure panel later to cover exposed portion of body .. the center of car might be the ans..i will check it out. problem would be solved if width was say 61/2 inches or even 6inches is better. /john

I am trying to understand the need for a hot-water heater, since I have heard that the Autolite heater (including the matching waffle-type exhaust manifold) provides more than sufficient heat for the passenger cabin.

I welcome any information on this matter.

Thank you.

The manifold heater may be ok for coupes, but I think that the electric fan on the hot water heater works better for the larger Tudor/Fordor type bodies. Also, less concern about engine compartment fumes and dependence on radiator fan speed.

I put the fan control switch for mine on the passenger side kick panel where we both immensely enjoy my wife being able to blast as much heat directly on her as she wants whenever she wants.
