Default Center main and front main caps

How do I tell which cap is the middle one?

You might want to tell us what you're working on . . . but I'll assume it is a 59 AB style flathead V8. The front cap has offset holes, the middle one does not.

8BA front mains have a "tit" in the middle of the cap.

I pulled the pan off an original untouched, 8BA today and can definitely confirm this.
