Default Rear Motor Mount(Shim) ?

Both sides had this welded to the top, doesn’t look to be a crack repair/bridge. Can anyone tell me why this has been done? Can’t get my head around it unless it’s to mask a sagging frame for better drive train alignment. Any other thoughts or ideas??

If the bolt holes are egged out to match,I would say to make up for a saggy frame. If they are not egged out,I would say it was done to make up for a badly worn flywheel housing.

Bolt holes are not egged. The piece that was welded is ford marked which is probably a coincidence, probably cut from an existing part? If you enlarge the 2nd photo you can see this.

Should the top of the frame be level the entire distance? With the engine out I believe I can use a laser level and see what kind of shape it’s in, I believe?

I suspect the mounts were shortened to make it easy to install an engine.

I see your reasoning but the other side looks normal and same size except for the added piece. I think it probably for a sagging frame now. For others reference,,, you can’t use a laser level to check frame with just the engine and transmission out, still too much in the way.
