Default Brake light pressure switch

On the 40 Ford brake light switch design is there a difference in a 12 V switch and a 6 volt switch? Does any one have a Napa part number for a switch for the 40 Ford 6 Volt?

A switch is a switch when it comes to the brake lights. Those pressure switches were used for years, so your local Napa store should have it in stock.

Thanks....I thought so. I had just noticed them listed on evil bay 39-48 Ford. I know G.M. and Ford used them into the 60's.

I have heard this as well. Some say that the switches Harley-Davidson uses are higher in quality than the after-market units. I've never had a problem, so I have no personal knowledge.

Years ago, I went to a mechanical switch mounted to the toe board behind the brake pedal. I found it to be much more responsive than the stock switch. As I recall, it's a brake light switch for a 1950 Chevrolet that I got from NAPA.

Here's a helpful thread.

I am using a Harley Davidson 12V switch. Works fine for past 10 years.
