Here in the Northwest, a bent up model A hood will still cost one about $100, I have found that it takes a lot of work to get rumpled up hood straightened out again. For me, a new hood was the most affordable way out.

Those were my thoughts as well.....my hood needs a lot of work. Thought a repop would be more economical. My phaeton is a driver not a points build. Nice original hoods are hard to find.

Rootlieb makes a quality hood. The only thing I would suggest if you do buy a new hood is to take a file or dremel and cut back the metal near the hinge area. The two top hood pieces fit together too tightly here without enough gap when the hood is lifted up. If you have any thickness of paint (primer+ sealer + enamel paint) here, it will be scraped off as the hood is opened past the hinge. I doubt that even lacquer will escape this fate.

For those that drive them, and hate the paint chip problem at the hinges, you may want to consider adding thin nylon washers to alleviate the chips. File the hood hinge for fit.

I've been told to do this on original hoods as well to prevent the paint chip problem.

And also use the stainless rod set the vendors sell.

Ive bought and seen a few really nice original hoods at swap meets for $125-150...
