Brake shoe interchange
Is there a way to use early 1940 style brake shoes with the postwar backing plates?

Re: Brake shoe interchange
To my knowledge they should work with the later backing plate.

Re: Brake shoe interchange
I think it would depend if the bushing that goes in the bottom hole for the later shoe will fit the earlier shoe with the round hole since the later shoe has the hole with 2 flats. You probably know the earlier backing plate has adjustable lower pivot and the later backing plate is fixed.

Post war have a circular "washer" at the bottom of the shoe. Earlier design has a flat sided "washer". In other words, later shoes with later plates...

Re: Brake shoe interchange
I think that back in the day, some manufacturer supplied shoes that would fit both applications by using spacers and special washers etc. It was a long time ago, but it seems logical the the brake shoe suppliers would do this before these became "specialty" items.

Re: Brake shoe interchange
They are not interchangeable, either way, not one way but not the other. If that makes sense.
The distance between the pivot points at the bottom of the backplate is different. It is easier to get the correct parts than try and make the wrong parts fit. That's my take on it, anyway. Mart. |
