Two questions
I know there was a thread recently about heads, but I can't seem to find it.
What are the markings 29A-LH and 29A-RH? Are these Mercury? Second question, what size is the crank nut on a 59AB style block? I can't see it well and I don't have a spare laying around to check. I'm trying to free up an engine in a 47 Business Coupe, I am soaking with MMO, but it's been sitting since 1968, and I'm afraid I may have to pull the heads. |

Re: Two questions
Ralph if you have a parts washer gun put the syphon tube in the MMO bottle and spray in the plug holes and down both sides of the cab with the plates open. I wouldn't force it to hard to turn over. If it's in the car after soaking a few days put it in gear and rock it back and forth. I have done lots of them and they all ran good. I don't recall the nut size it's about 1 1/8". G.M.

Re: Two questions
Thanks, the engine is in the car and it's had the hood on it, but sadly it was parked outside for all those years. Air cleaner was off, and so was the breather which worries me more.
With the melting snow I hope none of it got in there. I will pull the pan soon and see what lurks below. I'm considering just pulling the entire front clip, because it needs repainting(rest of the paint is pretty nice), and the frame is damaged( shocks pulled a section out) and it would make it easier to work on the motor. |

Re: Two questions
Thanks Bill I'll give that a try. I freed up a 1931 Willys-Knight sleeve valve engine a few years back using MMO, soaked it for a few months(your in no hurry when winter has set in), and then put a prybar on the flywheel.
Thanks for the info on the heads 41Ford. |
