Default ? about 49 Merc clutch/brake pivot assembly

Mine won't pull apart. Is this assembly meant to come apart? What is inside of the two "halves"? If I soak it in cleaner will anything inside get damaged? The one pictured is not my actual one.

Yes, it does come apart. No you won't hurt anything inside by soaking it. I took mine apart years ago, but can't remember what's inside.

after drilling 2 VERY discrete spot welds, they do indeed come apart to reveal some very old grease inside, and not much else.

I've never taken one apart. I've built them up with brass and turned them back down to get them back to specs but they don't have to come apart to do that. If a person wanted to cut a new shaft, then separating the two halves would get you there.

yea, my shaft is definitely worn in a spot or two and will need replacement or as you did - building up. Only problem is I cant find any info on it and can't find anyone who sells them. Do you have specs for a 49 Merc version?
Also, is there an official name for this part/
