Re: 1954 ford car frame
I can't say with certainly, but I believe that they are. The reason I say this is that Ford Australia retained the 53 Chassis for the 54 model. As you know, the 54 model in the USA introduced the new Y Block OHV Engine and Ball Joint Front Suspension. The Wheelbase was also extended by half an inch. If you look closely at the Australian 54 Ford Customline, you will see that the front wheel is not centralised in the wheel cut-out because of this half inch increase.

Re: 1954 ford car frame
Just so that you can see what I mean, take a look at the front wheel on this Australian 1954 Ford Customline. If you look closely, you will see that there is a greater gap at the front than at the rear. That is because Ford Australia, and I presume Ford of Canada also, delayed the introduction of the new front suspension and engine in the 54 Fords by one year. The Wheel cut-out on the 54 Fenders was moved slightly forward to cater for the half inch increase in wheelbase, but they still fit the old chassis. I hope that you find this interesting and educational. Mercman <>< |

Re: 1954 ford car frame
Just for a comparison, have a look at this wheel on a 1953 Ford Customline. Notice how central it is in the wheel cut-out. This car has later 55/56 Ford Hubcaps fitted. |

Re: 1954 ford car frame
Back many years when I worked on the line at Ford, I built a Tee bucket. The frame was out of square by 3/16 inch, I was horrified. I asked one of the engineers to look up the out of square spec for the passenger cars we built at the time. The answer came in a few days, it was plus or minus 3/8. That means the red one going down the line could be 3/4 of an inch different than the blue one behind it. I felt better after that. (the T bucket handled well, one finger on the wheel at 100).

Re: 1954 ford car frame
The front end of the chassis changed in 54 with the intro of ball joints and all that jazz. I believe a 54,55,56 chassis are the same. They changed again in 57 when they changed the body and prepped for the FE
