The shaft on the 36 generator is smaller, the pulley slips on and is held by a lock washer and nut. The 48 generator has a larger threaded shaft and the pulley screws on. I believe the 39 truck had the pulley you will need. G.M.

In order to put a fan onto a '48 generator you would need a '39 pulley, in lieu of trying to do this, you could just use a '39 generator.... Very hard item to find.. The '39 generators are 2 brush, higher amps, in lieu of 3 brush like the earlier generators.. The '39's came with a voltage regulator, like the '40 and later, in lieu of a "cut-out" like the earlier gen's.

The '39 generator with the fan mount was used on standard vehicles and trucks only.
The '39 deluxe had a crank mounted fan. Lots of standards and trucks in '39 used the
3 brush generator and and cutout, I guess Henry was using up left overs.
I have some fan mount '39 pulleys and a '39 standard 2 brush generator with the
fan on it.
Having blabbed all that I think the '48 is a better unit. I've added an adapter to the
later pulleys to mount the fan....any decent machine shop should be capable of doing
this.

Charlie I don't follow you? You shouldn't need an adaptor to put a "later pulley" on a 48 generator. I would only mount the fan to a pulley with the 4 1/4-28 threaded bosses which are available. If you don't have the original bolts uses grade 8 bolts. Places like Jeggs and Speedway have a threaded aluminum pulley to mount the fan. I used one of them when I put an alternator on my 35 roadster. G.M.

Offenhauser is the one who makes the pulley with hub and threaded holes for the Ford fan. Cost is about $50.00. I said it was aluminum but it may be steel. G.M.
