"seat" width
Back in high school around '63, I had a '30 fordor and a girlfriend. She used to move over and sit next to me.
Today, with the same gal, in my '30 coupe we seem to fill up the bench seat with little room for her to come over my way. Were coupes narrower that the fordor is more a case of us being wider? Steve J. |

Re: "seat" width
Let my wife wash anything and it'll really shrink. Thats my theory anyway.

Re: "seat" width
They say that the world is getting smaller, just makes sense that everything else has to get smaller just to fit inside?

Re: "seat" width
Sedans are wider. IF you look, you will see that a coupe just covers the splash aprons and a fordor extends beyond that. The slant window fordor is the widest.

A lady friend sat in Minerva with me & sed, "You couldn't do serious makin' out in this thing"! As I "twirled" the shifter around, SHE JUMPED OUT!! Bill W.

Re: "seat" width
The width of my '30 Coupe measuring from door panel to door panel, 8 inches ahead of the vertical seat back, is 42 inches. The same measurement on my '29 Murray Town Sedan is 47 inches. Over the 54 years that I have owned the Coupe, that distance has shrunk about a foot. Mostly when I left it out in the rain on Cape Cod. Gar Williams

No wonder you never see a Duesenberg left out in the rain!
The owner doesn't want it to shrink to the size of a Model A!

Concerning your response:
"But will she still get in the back with you?" She was definitely willing to get in the back. However, I had a great deal of logistical problems trying to get her back out! |

Re: "seat" width
That's because in 1963 when we had 15 cent burgers at McDonalds and Burger Chef there was no "could I super size it?" things came in one size. When folks started thinking "more is better" America changed,if you look at pictures from back in the day during the 50's & 60's most people were pretty slim and trim now a lot of folks are packing plenty of extra pounds.Remember when vending machines had 7 oz Cokes? I couple years ago after knee surgery I needed an electric cart at Wal-Mart good luck getting one, this is a common sight at most grocery stores: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsTkICplKl0 I just figured out for my weight I'm about 7" too short

Re: "seat" width
yea i have no idea being 6'3" and 230 lbs im going to fit in a 29 ccpu... i have whats left of the seat springs and for wonder and amazement i sat on it where i would be and yea i better find me a skinny gal haha.
I did sit in a 31 4 door, was a tad crammed with the door closed but not uncomfortable. I bet i could nestle down in there once i got used to it. Heck i manage to fit in my 1980 chevette just fine along with 4 others my size. Car isnt too happy about it but its doable haha

It's tight, but now I can get my size 14 shoes in between the riser and the pedals and drive it. That's one of the reasons that in the spring I'm going to change over to a Lentville Huckster, and part out the cab and bed.
