Default Flush, Corrosion Inhibitor, wetting

Hopefully I'll get to filling my flathead cooling system this weekend.

1) seems like a good idea to flush it first. Any recommendations on what flusing agent to use?

2) Of course I'll use 50/50 distilled water and ethylene glycol but what recommendations are there on an additional corrosion inhibitor to use?

3) Recommendations for a wetting agent?

Propolene Glycol (Sierra) brand is what I use with 50/50 mix and distilled water. Why that brand? It's non toxic to pets. I also add water wetter. Good for about 25 below zero. Gets cold here in Michigan.

I am a big fan of No-Rosion. Can be used with straight water or with a 50/50 mix.

Take a look at their website. https://www.no-rosion.com/norosioncoolant.htm

They also make an excellent flushing product.

Lots of good information about cooling systems can be found on their site.

Most antifreeze solutions have a corrosion inhibitor so you do not need to add any additional.

That No-Rosion sounds like good stuff. Also got a tip in the most recent V8 Times about Rusteoleum's Evapo-Rust Thermocure.

Seems like these products address different issues. The first one sludge and the second rust. Might not hurt to follow directions and use both. The biggest downsides are that it's time consuming and generates a lot of waste water to dispose of.

I have no known cooling issues but when I peeked inside the heads and block, there was LOTS of corrosion. Now's the time to take care of it so I guess I'll suck it up and do it.

Biggest issue is I need to speed up the drain process make waste collection more efficient. Spent an hour under the car this morning filling up gallon jugs through the hole in the panel under the radiator and trying to keep from spilling.

Thinking of buying a second oil change tub/container from the parts store to use for coolant. Just open the petcock wide open, don't tend it, don't worry about splashing and keep the dogs indoors.

I hear you. Good thing about the No-Rosion flush is they claim it is safe and can go down the drain and does not need to be disposed of like a waste product.

Put a small hose on the petcock and aim it where you want it go......Mark

I spoke with the good folks at Applied Chemical Specialties, Inc. (No-Rosion) and they recommended HyperKuhl Super Coolant for aluminum heads/radiators. I purchased a 4-pack.

Stay Safe,
Pat

They actually make a plastic coolant drain pan. It is much like the round oil drain pans, but is open across the top. It has a pour spout on the side. I just used it 2 week ago on my model A. I got it at a FLAPS.
