Default 1935 Ford model 51

Hello, bought my first model 51 1.5 ton truck. Where is the best place to get new and used parts? Also need to buy a shop manual. Will the 1.5 ton parts in the interior swap out with the 1 ton(seat)?

Thanks

Welcome, the cab and interior on the 1.5 ton is the same as the 1/2 ton, the big truck has bigger fenders, a different steering column and column drop, and the pickup has the gas tank at the rear rather than under the seat. Brake linings and other truck-specific parts show up on e-bay. Your truck could have had 600/20 or 650/20 tires originally, I got mine from Lucas. What wheelbase is your truck? ..B.

The 1 1/2 ton truck has the driver sitting on top of the gas tank. The 1/2 ton has a gas tank just behind the rear cross member of the frame. 1 1/2 ton truck parts can be considerably less expensive than the 1/2 ton since not as many people seem to be building or restoring 1 1/2 ton trucks compared to pickups. I have seen NOS front fenders for the large trucks selling for as low as $300, sometimes less. The hood, inner grill panel, and grill are the same for both size vehicles. I have seen no service manuals reproduced for them. I believe I have an original owner's manual for a 35 truck if you are interested. I would have to look...got rid of several of the manuals I had stashed.

THanks for the replies. It is in route from ND so I have no idea what the wheel base is yet. Would be interested in the manual. Know of any where to get a metric speedo face?

The manual I have is for a 1934 truck, not a 35...sorry I could not help. I did find a website with a lot of Ford literature.
autobooksbishko.com They have a wide variety of reprints.

If you can find a copy of the Victor Page book "The Ford V8 Cars and Trucks" by the Norman Henley Publishing Co., it's one of the best. Might be able to find metric speedo in Europe, and Ford made lots of '35 Ford trucks for the German army in WWII. ..B.

I also have just purchased a 1935 1 1/2 ton model 51. I am a need of a drivers door and instrument panel for the interior. Does anyone have a good suggestion where to start, web sites or what ever. It has been in storage sense 1972. I am about to see if it will turn over but not sure how to go about that. Right now it does not have the original switch in it and I have to get a battery. thanks for any suggestions one might have.
