Default 1930 Pickup Shocks

Were shocks installed on a 30 pickup? I bought this a couple of weeks ago cause I always wanted one...and know NOTHING about it. No longer very mechanically inclined, or able, be gentle please.

I added shocks to my 1929 pickup. The originals were long gone and the replacements were worn out.

Several options, Snyder's is what I used, but Bratton's has them and so does Stipe machine.

We'd like to see your truck..we like pictures!

Randy

Good and also properly adjusted shocks make a big difference in the handling of your model A Ford. My 1930 Model A Ford wandered, bounced and bounced, and was a handful to drive. After installing four new shocks, arms and links, it is hard to believe that it is the same pick up. I am running bias plied 19" rimmed Firestone tires and they are now very livable to drive with. Next time around, I will also go with the radial tires.

It should have shocks all around.

My late '30 pickup has them on the front, but not on the back...for now. It rides fine as it is though because with that stiff 10 leaf rear spring you don't really need them on the back. I have been told that it will ride a little nicer once I do install them on the back.

I saw nothing that looked like a shock, either a tubular, or knee action. Guess I need to study up on how to post pictures.

Do a Google search for Ken Davis in Texas. He sells a really great aftermarket modern shock kit that requires no modifications. to the chassis. Installed them in a couple of hours

Think I have the photo thing sorted out. My PU has balls for mounts, no shocks.

I would be interested how many model As still have their shocks. I looked at quite a few (in person and on line) before buying my 29. I don't have to take off my shoes to count the cars with shocks.

Shocks are not needed if your springs are not springy.

There are a lot of cars without shocks because they also have springs that are bad.

A car with good springs can not be driven above about 25 MPH and feel safe on the road. It feels like it will bounce off the road.

I put Armstrong shocks on my car. Originally on the MGB they bolt on the original holes in the frame. Bend the arm to align to the shock lug, weld in a ball(I got mine from Snyder's) You are ready to roll. PS I found my shocks on eBay.

They look very similar to the shocks on my wife's '61 Morris Minor.
