I'm thinking now I just may stay down for a couple more weeks since we have bad weather forecasts up north, and do those shows around Amilia Island that Hoop is always talking about and planning to attend. Would be great to meet up with him and discuss all of our opinions on these early Flathead vehicles, some of which we are at totally opposite ends of the spectrum from agreeing on.

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
Vic, when I arrived at the host hotel between 12:00 & 1:00 pm today, several barner's had already checked in, and during a quick loop around the parking lot, I found this nice little Model A fordor sedan sitting all by its lonsome, so, you know me, out came the Tablet for my first shots at the 2016 Barner's Bash....for those who couldn't make it, there will be plenty more pictures to post in the next few days.....stay tuned
ps...in my rush to get these pictures and then to register, I forgot to check whether this model A had 4 or 8 cylinders. Will report back on this later....

That is Jerry's car, it is running a 4 cylinder with some nice internal upgrades. Gene, wish you were here with us. Vic

The signs on the doors are an advertisement for Jerry Shook's Landscaping business, and the tags are Georgia. A very nicely done driver.

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
I saw the car in the parking lot. It looks great. I arrived too late to make it to dinner. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
[QUOTE=JM 35 Sedan;1252423]I had a short ride in that Model A before we all went to dinner tonight and it runs, drives and brakes nicely. It has a four banger engine that has been modified to accept insert bearings, larger diameter valves, two barrel intake, lightened flywheel, t5 OD transmision conversion, modern tubular shocks, 16", '35 wire wheels with radial tires, mechanical brakes with Flathead Ted's brake floaters/equalizers, and an F100 steering box is all I can remember right now.
QUOTE] Thank you for the details, John. After studying your pictures, that is one of those cars that just has "the look"......the look that subtlely says "there's a whole bunch more cool stuff buried within, IF'n ya take the time to dig a little.....and APPRECIATE"! I had already guessed it might have a T5. Super little car! DD |

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
Had a great time today on the run to Ocala to the Don Garlits Museum. Some of us also signed up for the tour done by Don himself through his personal garages and collection of things that are not kept in the museum buildings. Took a lot of great pictures and did some videos of Don talking about his early dragsters and some of his flathead engine collection including several Ardun engine conversions. I will post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow morning.
Here is one picture I took, this morning, riding in the back of Vic's 39 CS. Mike from Maine is riding shotgun.

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
A great first day. I did not really know what to expect, but it really exceeded my expectations. The best part is the people. A great bunch of guys to meet for the first time. One has not lived until you have ridden with Vic up I-75 in his 39 Convertible Sedan.

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
I did that in December. I am of the opinion the 39 is really a "smart car" disguised as a 39.
Vic and I talked, laughed while the car was in auto pilot, knew the route. It also liked speeds in excess of 65. Last edited by adileo; 03-05-2016 at 06:35 AM. |

Re: 2016 Florida "Barner's Bash"
Brendan, I rode in the back of Vic's '39 Lincoln Zephyr convertible today up to see an awesome private car and memorabilia collection, and then on to a car show in Dade City. Will be posting many more pictures as time permits.
Had a few minutes before I head to Vic's place and the picnic/car show at the park....
