Default Headlights

Greetings gang,
I am sorry in advance if this has been repeated in another thread. I am curious as I am installing new headlamps onto my 1929 Tudor. I have the connectors in place the way Henry would have done it back in the day. My question is, should I keep it this way or break it apart and do bullet connections and a grommet on the conduit area.

Thanks!

Dave

I would keep it original. Reliable enough, and think of The Next Guy. There's enough to confuse him with.

Depends. If the sockets and pins are in good condition and have no issues, then use them. If you are having problems with the pins shorting then run the wires to inside the bucket and use the connectors. If you do use the connectors, find a way to identify which is which so that when you put it back together you don't get the high and low beams mixed up.

They all will be brand new. Replacing from Sealed-Beam to 1929 era

New reproductions aren't as well made as the old original stuff. Some repro stuff is better than others as well. The headlight harness may or may not have the proper terminal ends soldered on but original types are available. They used a specific style of terminal to fit the bayonet plug sockets that are part of the conduit assemblies. New sockets are black plastic where the OEM stuff was hard rubber like what hair combs and steering wheels were made from.

The male to male connectors used in place of the bayonet connectors can be more difficult to disconnect than the original set up. I like the idea of the bayonet plug as long as it fits and functions well.
