Default 42 6-cylinder Freeze Plug Removal

Hello,

I'm in the process of resurrecting this 6 cylinder motor. Its got a good bit a crud in the engine block water jackets. I was thinking of removing the freeze plugs and trying to flush some of that crud out before I attempt to start it up.

What is the best way to remove the freeze plugs?

Thanks.

Dale

Typical SOP for freeze plug removal.... drive them IN, rotate them 90 degrees, pop them out using channel-locs as a lever against the block.

One thing to watch on really rusty freeze plugs, when you drive them in, make sure the center doesn't push in and leave the outer flange stuck in the block.

Don’t those freeze plugs look like the core plugs that’s in the pan rails on the V8 but larger? It’s been a while since I had any dealings with the G 6 cylinder.

Copy...thanks Ponymare. These look to be in pretty good shape though.

Ken...you are correct. There are 3 lower plugs and 2 upper plugs on the driver side of the block.
