Default Pump or not to pump

1940 coupe - mech pump removed running only 6 volt airtex.

The dumb question: when starting the car cold, does pumping the peddle couple times add more fuel? Or should you let the pump do its job along with the choke out a wee bit?

That pumps raw gas directly into throat of carb-intake manifold immediately.

If the carb is empty, pumping the pedal will do nothing. If it is full, pumping the pedal will squirt raw gas straight down the carb. If you have an electric pump, first turn the ignition on to fill the carb. After a few seconds, give 'er a couple of pumps and hit the starter.

I have an electric pump as well as a mech pump. I use the electric pump to prime the carb as my cars tend to stand for a while in between runs. My pump ticks when running and when it stops ticking, I know the carb is full. Like I said, a couple of pumps and hit the starter. The electric pump is then turned off in my case.
