clutch
afternoon
I am installing the 4sp and clutch housing in my 50 f3. behind stock 8rt. the clutch release shaft only covers about half of the equalizer bushings that go over the ball on the frame rail. I don't remember looking at this when I removed the tranny last fall. my question is, is there a side to side adjustment for this shaft on the clutch fork? there seems to be no room to move the tranny or engine side to side. all the parts are the original ones. thanks cliff |

Re: clutch
The fork that moves the throw out bearing hub inside the bell is limited on how much it can move side to side. There originally was a rivet that secured the fork to the clutch release shaft. Most have been replaced with bolts but the old rivet can get damaged and let the fork get out of place on the shaft. That release shaft may not be the correct part. It should be P/N 01A-7510. These were used clear back to 1940 so good ones are out there. There may also be a problem with the equalizer shaft or the ball mount. It should have the 7RT-7503 equalizer shaft. There were several types made in the 40s/50s but they aren't always compatible. They all use the 01Y-7507 ball mount for F1 thru F3 and prior commercials clear back to 1940 but it can get bent out of place.

Re: clutch
This happened to a guy on the FTE site, and it turned out his clutch fork's fingers had spread, so they didn't fit tight on the throwout collar. It allowed about 1/4" movement towards the center, which was enough that his equalizer shaft popped off the ball every time he used the clutch. The spring inside the equalizer pushed it towards the center.
