Default Insurance Question

I've used Hagerty before but feel they were overpriced on my car, anyone else have any luck with a better carrier, I want to insure stated value for around 20,000.

I really think you mean "Agreed Value", not "Stated Value". There is a difference.

As to the value you might consider having a professional appraisal done. Many insurance companies have an appraiser but it is always good to have a comparison. The Early Ford V-8 Club and Hemmings list appraisers so you could find one near you.
I use ANPAC www.anpac.com They did a very good appraisal as compared to a professional one I had. Slightly better value.

I'm very pleased with the cost of my insurance from Hagerty. I'm paying about 1 cent on the dollar. That includes their road side service.

I was paying around 600 per year for coverage of 20,000-25,000 dollars on my last classic. I only drive my car about 50 miles a year tops.

I get great service from Grundy. About $200 for 40,000 coverage. I had three large claims in the last 15 years with no problems

In comparing the cost of policies offered by competing companies, consider that well known companies generally have better claim service than unknown companies. They have a reputation and their good name to protect. Value is not what you pay for the policy, but rather, is what your policy actually does for you when you need it most.

I have been a Hagerty customer for about 5 years - so far I think they are fair and a good company. I've not turned in any claims - and hope I never do. My cost is fair - though the car is not a daily driver --> more like little trips in the local area, car show or two, etc.. I probably have only put 500 miles on it in the last 2 years.

I have Grundy and they were very responsive to the claims I had after the earthquake damage. I previously had the old cars with State Farm(my newer cars are with them) and when I went to Grundy I saved a lot of money.

Yeah, Grundy is excellent. $101,000.00 coverage for three cars costs me $559.28 annually - covers all three cars........

I'm also a big believer in Grundy. IMO, a very good company to deal with.
I live in Norcal, have 2 cars insured (32 Ford Tudor & 56 Ford Crown Victoria).
Cost is under $400.00/ year.
Oh, BTW, the 32 I value (agreed valve) @ 35K
The 56 is agreed value @ 20K.
I think a very fair deal

Insured values, rates and types and amounts of coverages vary widely depending on what state one lives in, one's DMV violation and accident records, and that State's insurance regulations (laws). Here in NY State only companies licensed by the State can offer policies. Here, to avoid the intentional over-valuing of insured property, the insured value of each vintage/classic car (over 25 yrs-old) must be established at the start of the policy by a professional car appraiser licenced by the State, and of course there is a fee for that.

My '47 was appraised at over $22,000 and the current annual premium is $342 with Metlife Auto. There is no limitation regarding mileage driven, locations where driven, nor where/how the vehicle is stored.

If not a frequent driver check with American Family. They have a policy that matches the coverage on my regular vehicles for less than $200 a year. May need an "appraisal" to verify the replacement value you desire. My Agent referred me to a local car dealer whose numbers they agree with. Don't remember the fine details, but worth giving them a call.
