carburator
hey Guys, I have a 53 Customline with a 239. I've been looking around at new carbs. Has anyone had any luck with Speedways 97 after market?

Re: carburator
This carburetor has a bad reputation; some have had good luck with it, many have experienced leaks, etc. That being said, it is the WRONG carburetor for your car. Stock post '48 Fords have a unique ignition system and used a distributor with an advance system called "Load-a-Matic". To function properly, the distributor needs to be matched to the carburetor, which supplies vacuum to the system. 97 carburetors (and their clones) do not have the vacuum port required, and if you use one, you will have no advance in the distributor. Hooking the "Load-a-Matic" distributor to regular manifold vacuum is even worse, as the advance will work backwards.
You need a proper Holley "94", ideally marked "EAB", for everything to work properly. They are not hard to find. If the carb you have is an "EAB" Holley, I would suggest sending it to "Charlie ny" on this forum. He will make it better than new. |
