Model A Ford Improvised Top Alternator Bracket
I replaced my 3 Brush Gen with an alternator and made the parts for mounting the Alternator to the original place the generator was mounted, I cannot show the two pieces of drilled flat stock as I already have the Alternator mounted, Basically two pieces of Flat Stock 1 inch wide, 2 and 1/2 inches long with a half inch hole at one end and a 3/8 th's at the other.
When I got around to the top adjustable bracket, my tools for bending are limited so, using mapgas torch and a vise and a big hammer I created the top adjustable mount and used an extra long head bolt as the stationary end. It ain't pretty but it is solid and the fan belt is got a 1 inch slack to it and the alternator is adjustable! The picture shows the finished product. |

How did you deal with the pulley?

Re: Model A Ford Improvised Top Alternator Bracket
I bought the one from Bratton's and found it worked really slick on one of my alternators that has a large pulley on it. 2.5 inch one. So I had another that I put on with a 2" pulley. That one needed a tweak as the adjusting arm hit the cooling fan on the alternator. Makes a shrill sound until I ground about 1/8th inch off the offending part. No biggie and holds the alternator really nice and steady. Bratton's came with a new 2" pulley which my alternator already had. I put it on the one with the 2 1/2 pulley. Spare, just for backup
