34 repo grill shells
I have a couple of 34 grill shells both NIB
I don’t have a 34 set up right now to see the fit I’ve had these 20 years or better and they are not Drake; I believe they’re Australian? Repos many years ago? They are very nice with perfect plating very very nice looking Can anyone shed light on the fit of these? Pros? Cons? Thanks in advance Last edited by Oldbluoval; Today at 10:03 A |

Re: 34 repo grill shells
4 repro grilles that I know of...
1. Early replacement, fabricated, coarse bars and too few. Garbage. 2. V8 Shop. Tooling by Lyle Funk. Fairly nice but had some fitting issues on the hood corners. 3. Australian. Semi-hand made, quality varied grille to grille, could make a nice replacement. 4. Drake. Very nice. None available. |

Re: 34 repo grill shells
CW Moss in Orange was handling them(Australian) along with the 35's.Chad who now has the store might be able to give you some info on them.Number 1 that Karl is referring to might be the Argentina ones.Ford Obsolete brought those in the mid 1970"s? Australian ones looked much better.
Post close up pics of what you have if you can. Last edited by deuce lover; 02-28-2020 at 10:24 AM. |

I have a old V-8 Shop one and have comparatively fit it. The Drake Grille fit far superior to it, but even it had it's own issues |

I had spoken to Troy in recent weeks and he is really pushing to turn CW Moss into something big and attempting to do more than just stock Vintique stuff. From the looks of their website and new catalogs that appears to be the case. His positive attitude made it seem as though CW Moss will be a great place to buy from as a retail customer. |

Re: 34 repo grill shells
It has been my experience (1 34, 1 33) that fitting a FORD grille even to original Ford sheet metal (hood, inner fender panels, apron at bottom if grill) is not easy, it takes a lot of fooling around. I can't imagine it would be easier with a reproduction.

Re: 34 repo grill shells
Curious~
How was the fit of these right off the line when assembled in the day? When one watches the assembly in videos and such it seems laborless to the men. Though I do realize that one gets good with their job in repetition. Still, there had to be variances in one from another in fit on assembled bodies. |

Re: 34 repo grill shells
Are we just a little more picky with our restorations today as against when the vehicles were assembled in mass?

Re: 34 repo grill shells
why not look at an original ( untouched ) I have 66000 33 ford . I will post pictures. The fit is real good. I also have a 34 5-W that has never been apart. I will post pictures. The fit is also real good. My opinion is when we try to assemble a car with parts that did not come with it - or era replacement parts. OR cars that have been hit and repaired sometimes good and sometimes not so good. We have to work to get acceptable fits

Re: 34 repo grill shells
I would also think they knew all the tricks (places to adjust to get the result they were after).

Re: 34 repo grill shells
That does look good in the picture!
Did Ford grills have part numbers on them? If so where? |

Re: 34 repo grill shells
I have fitted a few of the Australian repo grills made by Chris Nihill out of Bendigo Australia , they are really good quality and the fit up is almost perfect , when he makes them they are in raw finish unplated so you can trial fit tem before you plate them , i am very happy with mine
