Default 1965 T-Bird Cruiseomatic problem?

Hi everyone, I have a converter drain back problem with my '65 Bird. 390 Cruiseomatic trans...when it sits for a while the oil drains back from the converter to the transmission case until it overfills and leaks out the vent tube. The trans is slow to engage until the front pump can refill the converter. Is there a check valve in the converter or maybe in the transmission? Any help out there? Thanks, Buford.

most of the time the bushings on the converter front trans shaft are wore and leting the oil drain back, had that happen on a chevy power glide and a 2000 dodge van, the fix was to replace the torque converter, some trans have a check valve in the system to stop that, before you get to excited buy a can of trans conditioner, not the type that swells the seals, the one that helps remove varnish or any other stick substance in the control valves, auto zone carries it, ive used it with good results, and it works fast usually in one day or less, cost around $12, if its a sticking check valve that stuff will fix it
