Default Throttle linkage on 29 Tudor

Been chasing down a sticky throttle for awhile now. The souls on my right shoes are worn from lifting the foot pedal to go back to idle. I have springs on top of springs. I finally removed the linkage assembly and found that the foot pedal has about an inch of play before engaging. I can see the inner rod is loose from the outer casing (tip of pencil in photo). If I put a spot weld on here will I be on my way?
