Default Portable radio

I took a portable radio along for a drive today. As soon as I started the engine, the Static started. Is this for the lack of resistor type plugs?

Partially, but portables are made CHEAP and they have little or no shielding. It is not normally required for the use they see.
Getting ignition noise out of AM radios in mobile service is a real headache and can cost a lot if really persued to the ultimate.

It's the lack of carbon plug wires, which I would never use on an old car or motorcycle. The sound of the Model A is enough music for my ears.

Resistor plugs will have no effect on the static on your radio. It is caused by everything electrical in your car. The points make a spark. That causes static. The rotor and distributor cap make sparks. That also caused static. The brass strips going to the plugs cause static. The generator causes static. Time to give up on your portable radio.

I have Ted Weems and Gus Arnheim on cassette tape and play them from a $10 Dollar store player that runs on C batteries. Sounds just like a victrola
