Default Best way to sell used parts

What's the best way to sell used parts? Ebay, Ford Barn, big swap meets, local swap meets, craig's list, national Model A club magazines, Hemmings, other car magazines, local club newsletter.

eBay, from a handfull of used nuts and bolts to complete project cars, that works for me.

Not sure with the present state of the economy there is a best way. Been averaging only about 40% sale rate on e-bay and evel less on FB. Good luck. Rod

Yes, I have to agree, but back in the "Good Old Days" eBay was the place to sell, now even the .99 cent auctions don't get bids.

Old parts barn fell down over the winter, so that is not helping me out either. It had seen better days and I had it braced, so I thought it would hold up til spring so I could finish cleaning it out. Lost some 60's and 70's NOS tin, but nothing overly desirable. Still have not gotten to the back where the remainder of the A parts are. Thankfully I had over 70% of the A parts put and what was left should have survived. Going to have to make repairs on the other building, but atleast it is dry storage for now. No door on it, so had corral panels across the front and the neighbors cows got out and knocked the panel down. Took shelter in there, but other than alot of stuff to shovel out nothing hurt that I can tell. Rod

I believe that all forms are valid, more you publish more opportunity had...
Ebay, Ford Barn, big swap meets, local swap meets, craig's list, national Model A club magazines, Hemmings, other car magazines, local club newsletter.
Some of these ways are specific to the issue of cars, maybe Ebay has many visitors, but some for the topic of cars

I all agree with the above, but do not overprice unless it is some very special and not available in the repo market today. Have seen the most stupid pricing on EBay lately.

Some are trying to get rich off of afew sales. Have most of my stuff pretty reasonable, about as low as I can go and still make any money. Nothing on e-bay right now, but planning too soon. For the first time in nearly 4 years I can spend all of what I make on parts for mine, so getting abit anxious. Rod

Been selling parts for 11 years off and on, always try to keep prices within reason. No Cabbie parts. Located a rough vicky body, but no deal on it yet. Rod

Rod what's the story behind this barn full of parts? Did you buyout a big stash or just been collecting piece by piece?
& by the way...you should make sure Bessie didn't make off with your cow lights

...sorry

Been buying parts since 83, sold off all of my T parts 4 times now and time to do it again soon. Taken alot to swap meets and such over the years so always a changing inventory. Pic's of the old parts barn before I started cleaning it out. These pic's were posted on the old FB at one time. Actually the old parts barn is a 12 X 24 garge built in the 30's. We used it to milk cows and shelter buckets calves in until the late 80''s. Rod

Maybe it's for stupid people that shoot cows during deer season and claim they thought it was a deer. In Minnesota about 15 years ago a woman was shot while getting the mail out of her mailbox, and the hunter claimed he thought she was a deer.

Wow, the 'bull' is really flyin' here today! Funny stuff.

I've been selling off & on, on ebay for about 13-14 years and made out pretty good in the early years. Had a bunch of NOS Ford stuff from old dealerships from the 50s & 60s, it sold very well. I still have quite a bit and will be doing swaps and online auctions again someday.

But the online sites - IMO - have become more of a buyer's market, rather than for sellers.

It seems as ebay popularity rose, so rose the scammers and others that post stuff really cheap just to move it, thus queering the market. Not that I was trying to get rich, but I'd just post at a starting bid I was willing to sell an item for, and let market demand do the rest. I bought a few pieces lately but haven't listed anything there for over 4 years.

CL seems okay for local sales.

I'm swaying more and more to the swap meets nowadays. Meeting new people and the social aspect of it just appeals to me more these days.

As much or more value is in making the sale, as there is in the sale itself, if you know what I mean?

I guess it all boils down to finding the right buyer & seller.

Ron

The one you see on the right is for a Gleaner combine, the other one in the same pic is the one that is in my delivery sedan right now. All I have left is an original that the top tank is bent and it will need a new core. I have been thinking of recoring it for the delivery and selling the other, but I have not made a decesion yet. I like the idea of socializing and selling at a local swap meet...the hobbie isn't always about making money....its our social network and its not about bragging rights to a good deal found but helping another guy out! MY friend has been selling on ebay for 14 years and supports himself on it....his prices are kind of high but when he decided to sell worldwide is when he started making it there!! Good luck

That reminds me of the story about the farmer who painted the word "cow" on the sides of all his cattle during deer season.

Someone shot his John Deere tractor.

The longer this thread goes, the funnier it gets, guesse I should have avoided the story of the old parts barn, but thought some history after the question was in order. Raceron is dead on about e-bay in its current form. Most don't buy anymore unless you are nearly giving it away, but I keep trying. I have had afew years I did real well at it, but not recently. I would not sell any except at swapmeets if I did not need the money to support my hobbie. Rod
