Default Bool hubcaps being sold as NOS on auction site?

I thought NOS meant brand new from the factory. There is a set of Bool hubcaps which I was told by a member here were produced by Western Auto Supply. So he means NOS aftermarket?

NOS Means New, Old, Stock. That is a new item that was made long ago. Generally aftermarket items are called NORS. New, Old, Replacement Stock.

I wonder how much they are going to go for? Already at 27.00. I have one bool hubcap and I couldn't get 5.00 for it so it is now an ashtray. Lol!

I have a brand new set of bool hubcaps, and keep them just for fun. I remember when they were sold new. They are another part of all the junk my kids will throw out when I am dead.

Question Re: Bool hubcaps being sold as NOS on auction site?

Vanspeed,

Where do you see the "Bool" hubcap auction at? I couldn't find them
on greedBay? I would like to find a decent (light rust/small dents) set of
5 "Bool" or "Fool" caps for my unrestored '31 roadster. TIA

About 1968, I bought a set of "Fool" hub caps for our 1929 Model A tudor. I bought them from J.C. Whitney out of their mail order catalog. The "Fool" hub caps were the only hub caps that I could find in 1968 for our tudor. Today, the reproduction car parts market is a real candy store of much better made parts. Some of them actually fit.

I have a box of 28-29 Bool hubcaps. It is a box of 24,made by Kent. The box is marked 23 cents each. The plating is extremely poor, not due to age,as they are in perfect boxes, but the quality when new. They plated right over some kind of slag or sand.I've only looked at the top layer of caps in the box, never opened the bottom layers.

I can only guess that having the word "Fool" or "Bool" on your car was cool, back in the day... Sort of like irreverent T-shirt humor today?

It was to avoid copyright infringement.

I don't think that it was legal to put Ford script on parts at that time without permission from Ford. The first set of the fool-bool hubcaps that I saw was in 1961. I had to look close, at first glance they looked like Ford script and would fool you. I guess at that time, if you wanted real Ford script, you had to locate NOS hubcaps. I was able to buy hub caps with Ford script from J C Whitney in the seventies but they had a ring around the outer edge. The stainless steel version was good. I still have my first set. The hubcaps without the steel liner can usually be straightened if bent, not so for the others.

Wink Re: Bool hubcaps being sold as NOS on auction site?

wrdln,

Thanks for the greedBay item address. No wonder I couldn't find them.
I was looking for the 30-31 caps and not 28-29 ones. Again thanks,

I've got a 30-31 cap with the "F" on it, also both styles with a two blade propeller on them. Oh yea, have a few "BOOL" in both styles.

The 28-49 FOMOCO of Canada parts book still listed 30-31 hub caps.In 54,I bought a set of BOOL caps for my 1,st car for 25 cents each,I believe.

Thumbs up Re: Bool hubcaps being sold as NOS on auction site?

MERCNRY,

Thank you for the pm/email about the bool caps on greedbay. They are to pricey for me. I'd like to find 5 low-buck beatup n' rusty, but with maybe a little bit of shine left on them, bool or otherwise 30-31 caps.
They would be for my '31 "jalupy" (as Andy Hardy's dad the judge called it..) roadster. Thanks again........

The infringement sounds like what I have heard. Depending on who made the caps they started out saying Ford but were told to cease production. Instead of dumping the hub caps they re stamped them and changed to the Ford to Bool or Fool.
