Default Distributor

My father in law has a Depot Hack that has a distributor instead of the coil boxes. I will tell you up front I don't understand this setup. The distributor housing is cracked and held together with wire, I assume this is not so good. I would like to get him a new or rebuilt distributor for Christmas and wonder if there are several styles, models, etc...? I see a lot of different prices on line. Any one supplier better than others? As far as I know the motor is a mid teens style. It was running ok but now it won't and he thinks it is the distributor. Can't help with pictures, I'm in Fl and he's in NC.

Thanks

The distributor made by Texas T worked well for me and was easy to set-up. Yours may be OK even tho the body is cracked. Check it out as you would any distributor. Are the points adjusted and clean? is the condenser working? Is there voltage where it is supposed to be? These things need to be known before writing off the old unit. a lot of distributors used a VW body so maybe that is all that needs replacing.

I agree swapping distributors will not help you troubleshoot the ignition. Find the problem before you go adding new parts. It will help in the long run.

I agree, and that is what I would do. I've tried to get my father in law to go that route but he is sure it is the distributor and that is that!!! Easier to do it backwards and replace what he Thinks is the problem. I guess he will eventually get there.
