Arrow 46 Ford horn question

Converted to 12 volts and want to use the original 6 volt horns. Is it necessary to change to a 12 volt horn relay?

The relay may not be as big an issue as the horns themselves, believe (but not positive) that the difference in voltage will change the sound of the horns, and not in a good way.

Hi there, Yes you should change to a 12 volt relay. Then each horn requires one resistor in series on its power feed wire. Resistors available from Macs. Part number 32-62259-2 at $28.95 each.. Don't use any other resistor. Horns pull a high current. 6 volt horns generally sound very rough and off tune on straight 12 volts and pull twice the current that they would pull on 6 volts. Regards, Kevin.

I ran mine on 12V for years. Really loud. Just don't lean on them for long or they will go south.
