Vin help needed please--55 fairlane
Hi All,
Im in the process of purchasing the above car. I have a copy of the ownership, but the numbers dont fit the format of VINs Ive seen listed here. The VIN is listed as 473CK5544726 and am unable to find a decoder that can give me info. I live in Ontario Canada if that helps. Thanks in advance. |

Is it a FORD of CANADA car?
If so, you will need either a FORD of CANADA PARTS CATALOG or WORKSHOP SERVICE MANUAL to break it down.

That is definitely not a serial # for a US built '55 Ford. Has to be Canadian or overseas production. I assume you're using the number on the top line of the serial # plate on the side of the cowl inside the driver's door. The same # will be stamped on top of the passenger side frame rail about where the bumper brackets bolt on.

Re: Vin help needed please--55 fairlane
It looks Canadian but my experience is only for trucks so I can't help with the manufacturing plant code. There weren't that many plants in Canada so The C is still only known for "Canada" as a general rule but they usually did list the plant the vehicle was manufactured by.
4 = V8 (no listing for CID) 73= 4-door car The C and K I can't tell you for sure. All trucks were built at Oakville, Ontario in that time frame and that's the only one I know the code for. Cars were built elsewhere. The K may be a date code (month) with 55 being the year of manufacture. This would make the 44726 the consecutive manufacturer's linear serial number for that type if what I've mentioned so far has any credibility. Canada always did things a little bit differently. Re: Vin help needed please--55 fairlane
After further research, the 73C is the Fairlane Town Sedan (more chrome trim). The K comes up as the code for Oakville, Ontario. 55 is likely the year. There should be some other information on the body tag about trim & paint.
The USA built cars ha e a different coding that is a bit more specific but codes changed between 1955 & 56 so there is muddy water in some cases. US produced cars are still easier to find information about. |

A photo of the serial number plate would help.
