Default Model B valve cover gasket

I'm curious, how many of you use the gasket the way it comes and how many cut out the lower portion? I've always cut them out but now I'm having second thoughts.

Hey Ian,
Cut out....'lower portion' Do you have a picture/illustration of what you are saying ? I cannot vision cutting any portion of a stock B oil gallery gasket.....except to punch out holes for oil pressure guage and/or punch out holes for lines when installing a full flow oil filter.

The function of this gasket , in lower area, is too contain oil pressure to various areas..no ?

Hello Hardtimes, posting pictures is still on my learning curve. I did not mean cutting it to look like a Model A gasket, I ment cutting away the thin part that covers the oil channel so it is just like the Model B valve cover. One picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for the interest.

IIRC, the oil chamber lower channel (below the partition of the gasket) acts as a conduit to channel oil to the engine mains. EXCEPT the system is open at the point where the oil pump/distributor shaft passes into the valve chamber - so in substance the system is not pressure feed - and the channel serves no purpose.

I might leave the gasket divider - but only because that is the way they are made.
