Re: Model A commercial vehicles picture thread!!
In honor of the weather (in the US, at least) here are four images of commercial bodies in the snow :
First, a stake body in a factory photo: Second, a similar truck in real life (note the shortened running board, and apron, and the lack of rear fenders): Third, does this ever look cold! Look closely... I'm all but certain that's an AA, not a GAZ: Fourth, GAZ AA's experienced some of the most serious snow conditions ever (apart from the two "A" snowmobiles that Byrd abandoned in Antarctica in 1933). This looks to me to be Wehrmacht soldiers pushing a captured Red Army Gaz, but I may be wrong. Anyone have any better information? |

Re: Model A commercial vehicles picture thread!!
During 1928, Mifflinburg claimed that they were the second largest manufacturer of wooden bodies in the United States. Approximately 20-25 bodies were completed each day with annual sales of close to $1 million dollars. Although they were not selected to contribute to Fords 1928-1932 Model A station wagon program, Mifflinburg offered a slip-in cargo body for the Model A Business Coupe and Roadster. The slip-in pick-up bed was installed in place of the rear deck lid or rumble seat creating an open cargo area that extended 18 inch from the rear of the body.

Hey John, that photo of the Model A Fire truck being used as a hearse, is in New Zealand. I recognise the number plate, (License plate to you guys)

Bick I think you're right. If I recall correctly, it's a fire brigade member's funeral procession some time in the mid to late thirties.

My A pickup use to be a sheriff or deputy pickup lettering was really bad does have red light and siren, pickup was red could have been fire but sheriff was readable somewhat, when we painted put the star on door so could be removed, did not put anything back on hood, cleaned and polished red light,it now flashes, painted siren, siren looks alot like the ahooga, sure gets alot of attention and grandson and friends love to cruise around town with truck anyone ever seen a sheriff pickup?
