Re: Straight pipes?
Update.
The exhaust guy said" I did one if these the other day with no mufflers a 2" exhaust made no sound" I assured him there would a difference taking the 22" smithys out with my 1 3/4" system. Yup sur' Nuff' .. Ohh is on the loud side . Barks and clatters .. Whenever I start it I look around thinking wtf is that ! I go through roundabouts and usually don't change down, just pull away under load sounds like a big ol' diesel truck haha ...

Keep the smitties, straight pipes, glass packs etc. I prefer a simple gutted muffler on a flat head.

Re: Straight pipes?
Just bought a pair of Brockmans for my '46. Nice tone.

Re: Straight pipes?
I have Reds headers & Brockman glasspacks on my '40. With a stock '50 merc in it, had a great mellow sound. Just installed a built '50 merc with 400 jr, 2 carbs, heads & blocked heat risers. lots of exhaust noise, probably double. More motor= more noise.

Stock flathead in a 39 Ford coupe, stock iron manifolds, 24" Cherry Bombs, Very quiet at idle, low mellow tone when driving. Highly modified flathead in a 32 Tudor, center dump headers, 24" Cherry Bombs, Very loud at idle, loud when driving. Weird to me |

Re: Straight pipes?
Original muffler gutted and 2" from manifold back on a Model A and no-one wanted to follow me! Sounded good to me inside! 30" steelpac softened it enough.
