Speaking of swapping engines, Harbor Freight has a $100 coupon for their 1 ton engine lift. I think it's good until March 5th. I can't even buy the steel to make my own for that price, let alone buying the cylinder, hardware, chain and hook, and 6 steel casters.

I looked at my latest HF propaganda and looks like the hoist is selling for $179. I'd probably buy one too if I had somewhere to store it. Luckily I have two buddies that I can "mooch" from.

This is the tool I made for adjusting the clutch fingers. Not as beefy as yours, but seemed adequate for the task.

I think that everything to make it run is back on the car. I hope to get the radiator back on tomorrow and be able to give a good run.

I decided to just fill the water jacket and make sure eveything seemed to be OK. Tap,tap,tap...KLUNK kept running through my mind Went just as expected, can't ask for more than that. She is deemed worthy of a radiator! Then maybe a drive around the neighborhood.

Got the radiator in so puttered around the neighborhood and up and down Smith for 30 minutes. It didn't do anything bad that I can tell, I'll keep getting it run-in and see how it goes.

Hey Tom, Was looking closer at your picture and noticed "nylock" nuts on the adjustment screws. Is that correct? That's a good idea! I was wondering if those had a tendency to move while in use?

Yes, that was the pressure plate the owner purchased from Little Dearborn, and those nuts made it easy to adjust. They will stay where they were adjusted, and not move during use.

Ive got about an hour on the engine now. Just around my neighborhood with some short hops onto some 40 mph stretches. Still not any sign of oil on the floor, that's a good sign. That groove cut into the rear main hasn't turned it into a leaker, time will tell if it has any other detrimental effects. A couple of the exhaust valves had .016 clearance and i can hear them when it's cold, but can't after its warmed up. There is certainly more vibration, adding lots of throttle at lower speed, you feel every power stroke. Maybe because the float a motors are gone? Higher compression? Who knows?

A little update. I've got about 30 miles of driving on the engine. It's running very good. Still no oil dripping, the clutch is very smooth. The compression is now up over 90 psi. Spark plugs look pretty good, I'm using TT10 motorcraft.
