The "Post Office Friendly" way to wet-test carbs is to use denatured alcohol.
Evaporates quickly and scent free. Never a problem.

Thank you "uncle max " I also use alcohol to test pumps , along with real fuel pump cam lift , a pressure gauge & flow meter. Never vapor lock or "coil" issues from my fuel pumps , also have correct finish !!!! & never any failures , come backs or unsatisfied customers !! Also more customers than I can service , all without advertising on the F/B. No "Hit or Mis " action here !!! Like Kube,s restorations or uncle max,s legendary carbs , there is only one way to work on these old fords !!
Cheers
Tony

Seems as though not many builder of carbs or fuel pumps give the correct finish. Usually the vendor(s) set up at meets use spray paint

No paint here... My acid bath provides a pewter/grey/green colored barrier coating, impervious to fuel & moisture and should last another 70 years.

Max you are a true rebuilder, some are patch up artists using used shafts and other important parts. One guy told me if the threads are stripped he flattens the screw threads so they bite into the stripped threads. Your rebuilds are tested before shipping where some others are tested by the customer. G.M.

Why did you tell them what it was,i never do and they dont ask. If you empty out the gas in carb it wont smell if you put it in a gallon size freezer bag.Ive shipped hundreds of them that way.Never a problem. ken ct

Hi Uncle Max, the Early Ford V8 Cross Country Tour Group is here in SLC. We are all heading into town now for a photo op and maybe some of us will join the Mormon Church. We were thinking about having all 20 cars and about 40 people stop by your place to watch you rebuild 97's for the day, ask 1000's of questions and learn all your trade secrets but instead we are off to Alpine, Wyoming.

If you've noticed, I have not been back. I can't afford the trouble (time) to ship every other piece you "rebuild" back.
Prosecutor: "Well Mr.CT, I see in an earlier statement you 've made that you have shipped hundreds of items that have smelled of gasoline within one gallon plastic bags, yet, in a later statement you claim you have only wet tested and subsequently shipped only one." "So, Mr. CT my question to you is" were you telling the truth then or are you telling the truth now"?
Ken Ct: "well, I, er, um..."
Prosecutor: "Well, which is it MR.CT then or now?"
KenCt: "May we change the subject?"

I received my rebuilt 97 ftom Ken last week. It looks like a new one and the car runs better than it ever did. The engine started instantly, idled perfectly without any adjustments and accelerated from near stall speed to 65 MPH without any hesitation. The car is a '34 roadster with a near stock '36 LB engine and 4/11 rear end. The price charged was the same as I paid for the previous rebuild about 15 years ago. Thanks Ken.
