My coupe came from Canada originally, as did most of the Model A's here in 1928 -1932. My Victoria came from Argentina, it has been supplemented with parts from Uruguay and the U.S. We are only the current custodians, and can only hope that the next owners love and cherish them as much as we do. Here in the late sixties and early seventies hundreds of early Fords left NZ and ended up in the US. They were transported back in empty air force planes heading back from the Antarctic. Recently the trend has been reversed with numerous model A's and hundreds of Mustangs, Corvettes and classics being imported.

those guys in dont know how to restore a phaeton..wheres the top?? chrome light bar? chrome horn? chrome spokes and no blue bumper clamps, it should not have cowl lights cause its a 28 and it has the wrong seats...It looks like a SHAY than a real phaeton..what kind of car show is this....if it were a MAFCA car show it might get 2 out of 10...

Thanks, the photo was taken over 20 years ago at a small country school that I was headmaster of. The school was celebrating its 75th anniversay so we declared a 30's day, where everything we did was identical to the way it would have been in 1931. We had a ball, the parents got fully behind it, and the kids wondered what hit them (Literally!)

[QUOTE=Dave in Boise;377294]Brad in Germany,

Thanks for your perspective on this. It seems that there are car lovers and collectors everywhere, from Harrahs in Vegas, to Forney Museum in Denver to the old Towe Model A museum up in Deer Lodge, Montana. Even Jay Leno for heavens sake

Dave,
You really need to get out more. The Towe museum has been gone for decades. Way back when the IRS seized cars for back taxes. Then it moved to Sacramento, CA then it took in all brands of cars and became The California Automobile Museum.

I don't have a problem with them going overseas as long as they are enjoyed and cared for. I figure it will help keep their values up and more will be saved and enjoyed overall. A lot of cultures have a deep respect for historical artifacts. As an example: In my area in Pennsylvania, I have seen a lot of historical buildings leveled and replaced with convenience stores. When I was in Europe, I noticed that a lot of old buildings were saved and "repurposed."

Sadly not too many "A" left in germany (WW2 killed most of them - i guess).
Sadly still some more disappear.
See the nice open car i met 2011 at "Lufthansa-Klassik" in Hattersheim.
(my Tudor on the left)
Seems the car on the right side left germany and it is lost forever and no german will ever see it again

Best regards to Brad

LOL! Yesp, I think I was remembering a little too far back.. One fella here in Boise does have Ed Towe's old racing T that he used in races in Montanan and the nw area.

I'll see if I can find the picture I have and post it.. It still has the hand lettered door paint from when it was in the Towe museum back when.

I once owned a 1975 Cadillac Eldorad Convertible. I got tired of it leaking oil all over my garage and traded it for a Miata. My old Caddy went to Belgium. I didn't thein Belgium had roads wide enough for that barge. I don't miss it. Besides, I've imported three Model A's from Mexifornia. One went back there. When you want to sell something, it's not yours anymore to decide where it goes.

Default Model A's in Kuwait

If you happen to be stuck in Kuwait and want to check out the local Model A scene, a good place to start is the Kuwait Historical, Vintage and Classic car Museum which features a 28-29 Sport Coupe:

I shipped one to Norway a year ago. The fella was tired of running around in his phaeton in the winter, so bought the 4 door. Had been running the phaeton since 1963, so a true model A guy....

I seem to recall after the USA taking Afghanistan, that a picture of a 180A, pretty worn and tired, with a US Soldier looking at it, came back and circulated on Ahooga. There was also a Ford add showing a caravan of A's across the Sahara. I will look for those pics and try to get them up. Swoff

Nothing new here. In my area there was a guy twenty years ago that sold his coupe to a Japanese man that was doing business here and he then shipped it to Japan. It sold for 2X of what other Model A's were going for then. Another story is a guy in Illinois that has been buying and flipping (selling) off-shore for years. The Model A community isn't happy about it but as said before he is the New Owner and he can then do what he pleases with your car. It is a free country and he can export or hot rod it, as it is all about the money not the soul connection most of us have with our cars.
Final story I knew a old timer car restorer that had a pristine 1929 Springfield Rolls Royce that he bought in 1967 for a few thousand. He was boasting how he sold to a wealthy MD from Florida and made a huge profit... Six months later he was upset when he found out this same car was put into a container and sold to someone in Denmark for a doubling of profit...
