Probably not, but neither do US factory floor autoworkers. Chinese auto workers probably don't have unions either. Do you think the pay is that different between a Canadian auto worker and a US autoworker?

maybe a 10-15% differential. Canada
no chinese dont have unions. avg income of a chinese worker maybe 12k a yr. my understanding of US auto workers with bennies is well over 100k UPS workers make north of 145k a yr on avg. |

For what it's worth a quick online search gave the following re Autoworkers:
USA - Hourly wages can range from $30 to $40 or more, depending on experience, union status, and location. - Benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, are also substantial. China -Hourly wages for Chinese autoworkers can range from $1.93 to $4.27, depending on the company and location. -Some reports indicate that the average monthly wage for auto workers in China can be around $400, with bonuses and profit-sharing also common. |

Randy, much of the internet pricing is way off..........
I did a paper 12 yrs ago for a class and at that time, the avg chinese worker was making 10k a year- up from 4k a yr 10 yrs previous. My wife is a specialized nurse and on the internet it shows half of what she actually earns. Most data is way old. just my experience. |

What I always noted about folks talking about how high priced the other guy's labor is, is how they always justify THEIR labor costs
![]() Working on an assembly line or running a machine all day long is very boring AND very tedious work. Watch the videos of the Model A assembly lines... would you want to bust YOUR hump all day long doing that?? The video of that black guy standing there pulling castings off of one set of rollers and shoving them onto another set, going just as fast as he can... Whatever he was being paid was no where near enough.... I wouldn't want to work like that all day long no way. And I don't consider myself lazy. At my age anymore I just pay the price and move on, I don't fret it anymore. People have to make a living. And if paying a few more bucks soon for whatever, due to the changing game internationally bringing jobs and wealth BACK to this country that have been stripped away, so be it. Bring it on. America for Americans. |

What you're seeing now in the national discussion and financial markets is people making predictions (rhetorical and monetary) about whether the project to re-industrialize via trade barriers and reducing the service sector will succeed. |

Not that it's any of your business but I purchased a new aluminum fan, to replace my original, for safety reasons.

When your 90+ year old steel fan goes thru your radiator or hood, you may reconsider.

Some of us buy more than one because we have more than one car. I have seven Model A's, and although I am only restoring one at a time, I will buy multiples of required parts, so when required in the future, I have that part. It is also a hedge against future price increases of that part, which living in Australia, also covers currency exchange rate variances, cost of shipping etc. I support our local parts vendors, and buy from them, but they're not going to, nor should they absorb these costs.

all good points.
Hitman, Im sure you could head to Hershey or Carlisle or such and pickup 10 good used fans. But some are of the camp, that new is better and the only way to go. Nobody is right or wrong, but times have definitely changed. A restoration in the 1970s for the most part, isnt to the caliber of a true restoration today. Very hard when comparing apples and oranges.
We all have our own requirements.... |

A little bit of humor here ...
VERY LITTLE !! A man was revving up his engine looking for a noise which was difficult to find ... What was the last thing that went through his mind ?? The FAN BLADE ... as it separated into two pieces! This just a reminder about the real life dangers of using (90 plus) year old fans. Last edited by Benson; 04-25-2025 at 06:23 PM. |
