can a model a splash pan be used in a model b oil pan, in a model B engine with a counter balanced crank?

Could using an oil pump splash shield with the original height rod dipper tray (not lowered 1/8"), and trimming 1/8" from the oil pump splash shield for required clearance be possible for a bit mere oil control? Maybe not as much control as with the ford setup but some none the less. And running the oil level midway on the dipstick. Is there any documentation how successful fords changes to the lowering of the dip tray and addition of the oil pump shield were lowering oil consumption? Not considering the piston ring changes also as part of the equation.

The shield/tray warning is probably a "dimensional" thing. One imagines the shield is to guide to the sump the oil that would normally escape the pump/crankcase juncture (no gasket) and otherwise be thrown asunder by windage in the tray/crank area. Of course if you "modify" the various parts to achieve a fit - one thinks "ok" and hopes that in your various mods, you find the one that does the trick - but what is the trick? Or the mod? Not to say we shouldn't experiment. You're correct in asking about Ford previous findings. I can't say I've seen anything. It's curious that Ford "loosened" the ring contact in attempting to limit oil travel "down" into the "windage" area. Almost like he was hoping to increase oil on the cylinder walls. This may be the wear aspect that drives this. It's hard to know. Human minds are hard to read in the current consciousness, even less so given nearly 100 years elapsed time. Joe K
