I know you can see Russia from Alaska but isn't Alaska considered the West Coast? Could come into 'Southern' CA, up CA to Oregon, to Washington, catch a ferry to Alaska or maybe one of our Canuck Barners can carry it up to Alaska.

A copy of a Model A production would be far more appropriate. The Grit means nothing to most people. Wayne

Each State would need a "Road Captain" to manage sign-up of cars/drivers/contact info/route planning/support.
There's 48 cars/drivers right there.

Someone would be needed to designate/sign-up each (48) "Road Captain" Ensure communication points between each State

The State's size, and the numbers of participants for each State I think would dictate the route chosen, nothing is set in stone, zig-zag across the State if needed, the more cars/drivers the better.
Example: Oklahoma would need a minimum of 5-7 cars/drivers to maintain the 50-75 mile relay legs. Or could goes as high as 15-22.

Whoa down! You only have 10 Barners out of 75,000 involved at this point, not a very significant interest. Wayne

Volunteer Road Captains could have their state participants contact them in their chosen manner, organize it this year, do it next year and in 2018 it's done and in time for the 100th celebration for the Model A Ford. It will be a BIG year, anything Centennial is.

2018 is only 90 years from 1928, not 100.

OOOPS must be confusing with my age................. I feel like a 100...and I'm only 88.

I doubt if I'll be around for the Centennial , so it will have to be the 90th, I might be around for that one.

Good luck but with only less than 10 Barners posting so far out of a potential 75,000 you have a steep hill to climb. I will be shocked if this dream gets off the ground! The 50 plus posts represent only about ten members and not 50. Wayne.

I like the sound of this more and more.

Oh, and if we hit only the 48 contiguous states, we will be passing through all the states that were in the union at the time these cars came off the assembly line. Remember, there were 48 stars on the flag between 1928 and 1931.

In a secretive telegram from Henry Ford to dealers on May 26, 1927, advising that Ford was “starting early production entirely new Ford car… superior design and performance to any now in low price light car field.”

1927 + 90 = 2017 May 26th 2017

That's 12 months to organize 48 States.

May and the several following Months are prime Model A driving weather season.

Just a thought

Here is the shortest capital tour, totalling 11,698 miles:

Start in Maine, end in Washington.

Add zig-zag through each State could easily add another 7K-9K, figure 20K miles or better.

Going to require between 266 - 400 cars/drivers minimum, depending on 50 or 75 mile relay legs, and the number of volunteers of course.

Question:
Can a car/driver volunteer for more than one leg? In conjunction, or separated by at least one car/driver?

Could also start in Washington and end in Maine

This is a very nice idea, but without knowing the level of support, it's just a exercise in academics.

I have a poll running to see if this is even feasible.

I'm betting yes...

I am betting...no! 5 one Stars does not speak well for this idea! Wayne

Some of the more famous routes needs to be hit, maybe not the whole distance but part of Route 66, Lincoln Highway, Natchez Trace, Highway 1, etc etc

Totally agree with that one, each State, knowing their State better than anyone would know the best route, I don't think a State Capital would even have to be a necessary "must stop"

That too should be left to each State participants
