Ron'Iowa:
I hope I did not leave the impression that I thought regional tours was a poor idea. I believe that with the large interest in touring and the lowering of the economy, Regional tours and more of them is a great idea.

RockHillWill - I appreciate your follow-up. I was not thinking you felt regional meets were a poor idea; it was my attempt to keep the idea alive and hope-fully get the attention of the MARC and MAFCA board members.
We as member/hobbyists of the local and national clubs must keep our elected board members at the social fore-front so that (as mentioned earlier in this thread) we don't just keep the status-quo. We need to come up with new ideas and ways to interest more people to the Model A hobby.

This has been a great thread for me. It is nice to see that there are folks willing to contribute and share ideas. I have already shared many of these ideas with fellow board members and some of them have already responded in a positive manner.
Thanks gentlemen!

Could you please answer the question I posted a while ago, Are these events closed or open to the public? Bob

Like a family reunion only family can partake in the activities or like a high school reunion. Can anyone that has been to a high school partake?

You, the public, are able to attend and view the cars and attend the swap meets, but lacking membership in the national group you are unable to attend the technical seminars and related activities that are normally held in the event building.

This has been a great thread, I have brought this issue up several times before to the BOD.
You say that you want to make it a family event and get younger people involved. The problem we have at least in the Northeast is that the National usually falls at the end of our school year so it is almost impossible to make it a family function. |

Scott,
I have heard that as well, and have addressed that very issue as I have been updating the guidelines. It is far more easy to alter the schedule now than it was in the past to accommodate that concern.

There surely are a lot more than 169 Model A Ford owners that dwell on FB yet that's all who've taken the time to vote in this poll.
Let's hear from some others, this is a good conversation going on here! |

Recommending National events in the summer would be a huge step towards getting younger families involved. Even regional meets can be a challenge during the school year.

I'm NOT a member so didn't vote. RockyHillWill, I'm going to go with your answer since you are a member of the National Board. I would think with all the talk about "Fine Point" cars showing them to the genaral hobby perople would help attract future members. I'm soon to be 63 so there isn't time for me to do a "Fine Point" but there must be a few young guys out there. Bob

For some reason, it does appear that the National Clubs are reticent to invite the public, citing insurance and inconvenience issues. I am trying to work on that issue.
I have made some suggestions that the Fine Point cars, along with a number of Touring Class cars and members of the Fashion folks dressed in era clothing ALL be made available to the viewing public at the same time and allow their pictures to be taken. I further suggested that many application forms for membership be available at the same time to entice new members. I have been amazed and disappointed that members of each group have somehow had a reason to think it was a bad idea, citing a cause that might 'inconvenience' their particular group. I will keep attempting to look at these ideas from an all inclusive viewpoint, as there are several others that are trying hard as well to increase our membership in a way that benefits the ENTIRE organization.

This may be a bit off topic but I have collected tractors and hit&miss engines for many years. When I started showing at a nearby engine show I requested to become a member of their club. I was told that they did not need new members. I asked several times over the years and always got the same answer. I finally gave up and decided not to show at their show anymore even tho I really liked a lot of their members. Three years ago close friend said I needed to buy a model a and invited me to a weekly coffee. They were very friendly and wanted me to join the club even before I found a car. This last three years have been great. I bought my car and with a lot of help, rebuilt almost everything on it and have been to two national meets and have driven my car over eight thousand miles. The thing that stands out with me is that model a people are common people who are willing to help others and just enjoy the hobby. I think it is very important that we always answer peoples questions no matter how silly they sound because we are all ambassadors of one best pastimes anywhere and one question could lead to another model a enthusiast.
