I once put down shag carpet on the floor of my garage for comfort while under the car. When I got rid of it, I found all the screws, nuts, washers, springs, C clips, and ball bearings that had been lost since I'd put the carpet down.

I have decided that never again will I put something in what I consider to be a better place that will be easier to find. When I need it I always go back to the place I saw it in in the first place and can never recall what I considered to be a "more convenient location, easier to find".

A devilish trick to pull on one of your highly organized buddies:
During his reassembly of an engine, slip an extra bolt into his parts tray. ![]()

I've told my wife that I had looked everywhere for it..her reply "evidently not."
I do have a special place for the special parts now. I bought a fairly large tool box just for those things. Still looking for it. |

Just wanted to let everyone know I found it! Oddly when I found it I immediately remembered putting it there.

Always loved that show. And Roma..... Who wouldn't? She was a good girl like Maryanne on Gilligan's Island. She died today of covid. Dawn Wells. Was this thread about television actresses ? Huh? And where's my 7/16 1/4" drive socket? I think my son stuck in in with the metric drawer because he has NO clue what it's like to drag your OLD ass out from under the car the following weekend to get the correct one. Sheesh... Can't get no respect.

Heard a psychologist type say once: If you can't find something, when you do find it- put it where you looked first, that's where your mind knew it was. Works for me.

I'm still looking for the original seat belts out of my '67 Corvette. They have to be someplace.

Things are a bit easier if you realize that 7/16" and 11mm are virtually interchangeable as are 5/6" with 8mm, 5/8" with 16mm, 3/4" with 19mm and others. If you can't find the one you need, there may be an alternate.
